Khari-bulbul is the Azerbaijani name for an orchid (Ophrys caucasica) native to the Karabakh region that overlaps Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Khari-bulbul – "Ophrys caucasica" (Azerbaijani) – is a marquetry art piece and is part of Natasha's Portraits collection.
This cameo is made from figured sycamore on a figured anigre background. Natasha favours sycamore for the clean, sharp lines that can be cut into it for marquetry. Working with it is helpful for very fine, precise work. Edged in gold foil.
Khari-bulbul is an extremely technical work, with particularly difficult curves to create the beads and coins embellishing her traditional head dress.
