Khari-bulbul is the Azerbaijani name for an orchid (Ophrys caucasica) native to the Karabakh region that overlaps Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Khari-bulbul – "Ophrys caucasica" (Azerbaijani) – is a marquetry art piece and is part of Natasha's Portraits collection.
This cameo is made from figured sycamore on a figured anigre background. Natasha favours sycamore for the clean, sharp lines that can be cut into it for marquetry. Working with it is helpful for very fine, precise work.
Khari-bulbul is an extremely technical work, with particularly difficult curves to create the beads and coins embellishing her traditional head dress.
